What can be done to prevent its extinction?

Their extinction can be prevented if tide pools are carefully checked for Blue Ringed Octopus before they throw in the net. They should also make sure that the Blue Ringed octopus becomes a protected species, so please help save these incredible creatures by doing your part.

What are the threats they are facing?

They are accidentally being caught in fishing nets and they are being hunted for its medicinal properties. They are also affected by sudden change in the water's temperature because they are very small and fragile.

What do they feed on?

They prey on Hermit Crabs, Shrimp and other small crustaceans. They hunt them down by changing its colour to camouflage and when the prey has come close enough they lunge at them and inject venom into them using its sharp beak and once its prey is dead it tears it open also using its beak.

Where are they found?

They live in tide pools and they live between corals. They are found through out the Pacific and Indian ocean.

What is the Blue-Ringed Octopus?

The Blue Ringed Octopus (Hapalochlaena Maculosa) is an incredibly beautiful mollusk and they are recognised as the worlds most venomous marine animal despite their tiny size.
